For generations families have spent
their summers vacationing in Elk Rapids,
but the secret is out one of northern
Michigan's premiere vacation spots
is an amazing year round destination.
Summer or winter, Elk Rapids provides
the best local flavors, adventures, and
opportunities for every family.
Eat.
Village resident and restaurateur Michael Peterson handpicked Elk Rapids
for his third restaurant, Siren Hall. Trained at The Culinary Institute of
America and Le Grenadine in Paris, Michael's love of the area inspired him
to open a seafood restaurant in downtown Elk Rapids.
Located in the heart of cherry country, Elk Rapids supports a variety of
agriculture, and Michael uses them all at his restaurant throughout the year.
"I don't have to drive more than fifteen minutes to get anything I want, from
apples to asparagus," he says. "In the fall, you can store food to get you
through the winter," making Elk Rapids a year round agricultural gem.
Residents can also take advantage of the local produce. With 300 farms
in Antrim County alone, you can pick your own berries or buy them at a
roadside stand. Every Friday from June 7 to October 11, the area's farms,
bakeries, and crafters bring their products directly to you at the Elk Rapids
Farmers Market, located in front of the Chamber of Commerce building.
Play.
Water skiing, kayaking, mountain biking, snow shoeing Elk Rapids has
it all, making it the ideal location for outdoor enthusiasts. Local outdoor
adventurer Matt Drake (Short's Brewing Company) says Elk Rapids is what
most people think of when they envision northern Michigan. Unspoiled
nature, hiking trails, and crystal clear water attract many outdoorsmen,
but there's also space for the less adventurous.
"Public spaces such as parks and natural areas abound in Elk Rapids,"
says Matt. "Sit on the beach at the Elk Rapids Day Park, or find a remote
bench in Veteran's Memorial Park. You can always find a place to enjoy the
outdoors with family and friends."
That kind of access to nature is why Matt calls Elk Rapids home.
"To be able to launch my kayak, go for a hike, or jump on my bike without
having to travel makes all the difference. Each time I venture outdoors
in Elk Rapids I return home with a greater appreciation of the natural
wonders of this place."
Live.
When you're ready to stop visiting Elk Rapids and settle down, the area
provides numerous opportunities for home and business. The last two years
have set new real estate sales records in the area.
Entrepreneurs have options in Elk Rapids, with commercial properties
available for lease, sale, and rehabilitation. There are downtown shops
and river view spaces, vacant lots and spacious buildings. Once you find
your spot in the business arena, there's every possible style of living space
available in the Elk Rapids area river front, small lake access, cottages,
condos, and 19th century homes.
Now is the time to commit to Elk Rapids, as the once secret gem of
northern Michigan has been discovered. It has beauty like no other, with
the parks, lakes, and the renowned harbor. There are great restaurants, a
fabulous school system, and close proximity to Traverse City and the airport.
Elk Rapids the closest little village, offering a quaint, waterside town.
